This spring, Operations Program Coordinator Sarah Bonvallet spent time on the road visiting four partner counties across Minnesota. Each stop offered a firsthand look at how boat wrap collection, transportation, and recycling are taking shape for the 2026 season.
This is Part 4 of a four-part series, featuring Otter Tail County, our last stop that left a lasting impression.
The Standout of the 2026 Season
Thirteen active private collection sites. Twice-weekly pickups. A branded compactor truck and containers making the program visible across the community. A text-based coordination system that keeps everything running smoothly. Otter Tail County has found its rhythm, and it shows.
Sarah’s visit with Brooks, Natalee, and Ryan gave a clear picture of a program that has built something genuinely impressive: strong community roots, efficient operations, and partners who are truly invested in making boat wrap recycling accessible for everyone.
13 Private Sites and a Community That’s All In
Otter Tail County’s private collection network is the largest of the four counties visited this spring. With 13 active partners collectively gathering approximately 3.5 tons of material so far this season, the breadth of participation here is remarkable.
One site stands out above the rest: Leroy’s Motorsports.

The team at Leroy’s embodies what it looks like when a community partner is truly committed: engaged, enthusiastic, and always looking for ways to make the recycling process work better for everyone. Their approach to wrapping and unwrapping is a great example for partners across the program.
Public drop-off is available at five locations across the county, giving boat owners plenty of accessible options to participate, no matter where they are in the state.
A Model Worth Following
Transportation in Otter Tail County is a standout operation. Pickups run twice weekly, coordinated through a simple, effective text-based system that keeps communication clear and collections consistent. The branded compactor truck and containers add a visible, professional presence across the community, helping more people recognize and connect with the program.
Agricultural plastics are collected separately from boat wrap, keeping materials clean and sorted from the start. That kind of attention to detail supports better outcomes for every material collected and helps keep high-quality resources in circulation.
What’s Next for Otter Tail County and the Program
Otter Tail County is a model for what this program looks like when everything comes together: engaged partners, consistent operations, strong community visibility, and a team that genuinely cares about getting it right.
