Boat Owners

What is a Boat Owner?

A boat owner is an individual or private party who uses boat wrap to protect their personal watercraft, typically during off-season storage.

While generating smaller quantities of wrap compared to businesses, individual consumers are essential contributors to recycling efforts and play a vital role in promoting sustainable boating practices.

All boat owners are encouraged to participate in the WRR Program by self-hauling their recycle-ready shrink wrap to a public or private collection site, supporting its proper collection, transportation, and recycling in accordance with program guidelines.

The term “generators” is used to refer to anyone who generates (uses/creates) boat wrap material.

See page 19 in the Minnesota Boat Wrap Stewardship Plan (Revised) (w-ps1-06d), approved Aug. 27, 2025.

Questions? We Have Answers!

Boat owners participate in the program by managing their boat wrap material and ensuring it is directed to approved collection sites. Their engagement supports WRR’s goals by keeping materials in circulation, reducing waste, and promoting responsible recycling practices. By taking these actions, boat owners play a key role in sustaining the stewardship system and advancing environmental responsibility
